Polarizing

So I put a new (used) delco unit on, and the Gen light stays on while running.

Should I have polarized it first? (k321, '73 444)

err, got it, guess I figured it would stay polarized from the previous tractor.
Best part of the link
"never assume the generator is properly polarized. You must polarize the generator every time it is disconnected or serviced. "

Thanks Km3h, had to read your whole twin Deere lx tale again, evryone loves a great tractor parlay story. The 444 was the happy ending that was left out.

Yea
I love that 444. Stole it too. Right now it is a pile of steel waiting for sand blasting. Waiting for cooler weather next week to do it.

Hope things work out with the generator.
Found out why it didnt work.
The field coil was bad. So swapped the coil from my old one, combined with armature of the new one...and it works

Now to contact the seller and ask for some $ back....

Multimeter again saves the day

It was my pleasure. Glad you got it fixed.
Beaumont,
Thanks for reminding me of my lack of manners

Km3h, thanks for the link.

It's not over yet, the gen liight stays off @ idle, comes on @ throttleup.
I'm thinking brushes....I'll get a chance to look at it again in a few days.

What is the voltage reading at idol and throttle-up at the generator and then at the voltage regulator output terminal? Also, make sure that you have very good connections, especially at ground. Many voltage drops are caused by a weak ground connection. Every ground connection is important.
