Working on getting my '82 990 running again, and picked up a new condenser and points. Here's the problem - the B&S parts listing gives me the PN, but doesn't show the location of either. Where the heck are they located? They're not under the flywheel, because I removed that to clean out all the mouse urine and droppings. I haven't located the condenser cover on the side of the engine. Need some help here guys! :banghead3

I'd like to get this thing running again. Thanks for any help,

Rich, they are located on the right side of the engine. Just back of the carb. Look for a little cover with two screws and two wires coming out.

Just looked at my '73 990, and the cover is just where you pointed out. If memory serves me correctly (and that's hit and miss), I don't recall that cover on the '82. I'll look tomorrow.

Rich, can you post up the engine spec from the 82, and I'll dig out the IPL for that engine?

wasnt it around the early 80s when they started moving away from points and condensers??

Benn - I believe you're correct - there are no points and condenser on my '82.

D-Dogg - There isn't any cover on the right side - there's a place for it with two tapped holes, but no points or condenser. I do have the IPL for my engine (32600), and it does list the points and condenser, but this same engine series was used for many years.

I'm just going to clean up what Mickey and Minnie left behind and hopefully it should run as before. I'll post here when I get it finished.

Briggs was still using P&C on that engine in '82. Perhaps it was updated by a previous owner.
