I have 59 Ride a Matic with a 7hp Kohler electric start option (starter/generator). I am having great difficulties with the wiring, i spent $76 on voltage regulator (Standard VR220) burned it up, it has the typical single prong on bottom and three prongs on side. The book for the motor only shows a three prong regulator but does not list a model number. Can anybody help with the correct regulator. Thank you.

Looks like correct Kohler part no. is 275746 but just about any regulator for starter / generator setup will work. Most important thing is make sure you are putting wires on correct terminals as not all of them are in the same place for same function.
