PGT 9000 Snow Blade

Hello again - it's been a while but I posted in the Spring about buying a garden tractor and the PGT 9000 I ended up with. I've read some bad reviews of this tractor but I love mine - it worked perfectly through the summer, no troubles at all.

So now it's winter and I'm looking for a snow blade. You'd think that in Canada they'd have a few options (seeing as we get a bit of snow here in the winters) but no, according to the Sears website, I have one option, the dozer blade (this one) for $549.

I don't really want a dozer blade since I don't think I'll need it - rather have something simpler (and much cheaper) like this one from Sears in the US for $239.

But figuring out if it will fit on my tractor is impossible since they use different part numbers between the two countries and each side like to pretend that the other doesn't exist.

So .. does anyone have any idea if I can pick up the 42" or 48" snow blade from Sears in the US and bring it back to Canada and expect to attach it to my PGT PRO 9000?

The part number for my tractor is 60931. I assume the front bumper will have to come off to attach the snow blade. Anyone know if, should I leave the snow blade bracket on, will I be able to put the bumper back on? Not that I need it, but it looks cool. :)

Thanks

When you go to the link that you listed for the snowblade, scroll down and you'll see this link:

Click to find out if your tractor is compatible

When the link (pdf file) opens, go to the 2nd page and it gives you 3 "steps" to follow.

Have you considered the Johnny Plow? I only mention it because later you can pick up the Bucket, both use the same tractor bracket.

Could save you money in the Long run and they can be moved to your next tractor, Sears dedicated plow may not.

I can't tell from that page whether the frame is the same or not - I mean my tractor has a frame there obviously but what am I supposed to be looking for? Do the holes have to be in a certain position for the blade to attach?

Yes - and it looks awesome - but I think it's more than I'll need. I have one acre of mostly grass, and no plans to do any serious landscaping or anything that we'd need the dozer or bucket for .. I'm in Southern Ontario where we don't get that much snow, but I have a long wide laneway so I really just want something that will push the snow around.

Here's the 3 different frames - but with the pixs "blown up".
My frame is the 2nd one. Not sure what yours looks like, so you'll have to really look and see which of the 3 frames matches yours - IF at all.

I tend to believe that you could make any blade fit wit a little modification (drilling / cutting or adding an additional support.)

I have the sears 42" snow blade that I first made fit on a MTD lawn tractor, and now made it work with my GT...

It may get a lot more difficult if you try to fit a blade that uses the deck lift as a blade lift, but mine just has the lever out front..

you can plow with a johnny bucket too, no need for the plow

Very useful and fun tool,
and I guess I could see it being OK on short drives.. But when I had snow hit before I figured out how to adapt my plow, pushing snow straight with the jbjr was not very fun on my long drive..
Have you considered a Bercomac Blade http://www.bercomac.com/produits_lames_pourTracteur_ang.php There made in your neck of the woods:thThumbsU
I wanted one of these but they will not ship to the states. ****, its only a few more $$ than the stocker and its electric lift.

yes, yes they do (lol jk)
Because of where I live, snow is not a problem. I read this link because of your tractor choice, see my avatar. If you aren't familiar with this site, it may be a resource for you, I've had success with getting information from him about my PGT9000.

I love my PGT9000 also, mine is the 247-28984 made by MTD. I have the 2010 compatibility chart and it shows the snow blade as pt# 24414 and 24116 (not sure why 2 numbers). It also lists a number for a snow thrower, etc for this model. I'll try to post the pdf file if you are interested.

Also, as for the bad reviews, I think they are posted by people who are trying to compare this $3K GT with those costing $8 - $10K. The only issue I have that hasn't been resolved by a new part is the plastic idler wheel used on the right and left side on my manual deck lift. The steel cable will jump the idler pulley and since it's plastic, it will deform and have to be replaced, has happened 3 times so it's time for a little 'yankee' ingenuity I guess. But other than that, this machine is excellent and cuts my grass as smooth as the commercial units costing much more.
