I have a stock 1973 peerless 501 that I am using on a lawn tractor with a stock 18hp briggs twin II. the original engine to the tractor was 12hp and I am retrofitting a 18hp briggs twin II on the tractor. I pulled the trany apart just to find gummie sludge and rust colored water. My first question is can a stock peerless 501 trany handle 18hp or not? My second question is can I use foaming engine degreaser to clean the sludge out of the inside? My third question is do I use oil or grease to lube the inside componets of the trany? And my fourth question is what weight oil/grease should I use to refill the trany after i clean it?
thanks in advance
