Yeah, I actually have that bookmarked!

I'm going to look at the tractor tomorrow, still working out what to tell the wife... she'll be unhappy that it doesn't run... (yet!). I could just hide it at the shop...

Dad may be down for X-mas and he's a whiz with engines. I could maybe talk him into overseeing the project... his health ain't so good.

Let you guys know what I find tomorrow!

Hey guys, thanks for the help/info! I went and looked at this 1983 318 I was sorta interested in. It's not in as good a shape as I would like, the engine looks to be shot, and or course, the wife said "No!"

The gentleman I spoke with seemed to have a lot of JD knowledge and 4 or 5 JD tractors. He spoke of having a lot of parts and Onan engines around the homestead. This kinda scared me off - if he was so good with the Onan engines and rebuilds and such, why would he not rebuild/repower the 318 and get much more for it?

Anyway, here's the link to his ad on CL and some pictures I took because... everybody likes pictures!

Here's the body of the ad:

"I have a 1983 john deere 318 , it has rear wheel weights, dual front hydraulics, power steering, 48 inch deck, when i got this john deere the motor was skipping, broken rod, i have torn the motor down and the only damage was the rod, i have another rod and piston, have already done the valves, just need a set of rings and gasket set, the overall tractor looks good, the power works good, and the mower lift works good, for more info call. 864-323-4753 Chuck . I will put pics on later"
