Some people buy Protection Agreements on every applicable purchase at Sears and other retailers. Others want nothing to do with them. I think it boils down to 2 things...how you treat your equipment, and how lucky you are. If you like the peace of mind knowing that everything on your tractor is covered at your house, and you don't have to bring it in for repairs, than a PA might be good for you. Remember this; evidently less people make use of them than those who do. Otherwise it wouldn't be profitable, and I can tell you that it is extremely profitable for retailers. :smilie_fl

I am one of those people. The way I look at it is that in case I need repair in three years I am covered. Even I use it only once the plan is paid for.

I never buy them. I am mechanically inclined, and it has to be pretty serious before I can't fix it.

If you don't fit that category or you don't have a way to haul the machine, then you may consider it... but I think I would still take my chances. $500 will buy a lot of repairs if you need them, and you may not.

Hey all,
Just bought a GT5000.. The sales guy was pushing the extended servive plan (500 bucks) hard...What do you think...Waste of money? Dan
If your mower dies can you fix it yourself?...or can you AFFORD to fix it?...:D
If NOT, then the extended warranty makes sense...;)

I have received a new mower deck...a new motor...and finally a complete replacement Lawn Tractor under their warranty system...;)

Oh yeah...I have also received a replacement self-propelled snow blower under their system...when the frame on the snow blower bent and that part was NO LONGER AVAILABLE...I received a brand new 33" replacement unit...:D

I would NEVER buy a tractor from a box store without them. People I try to sell the service plan too at Lowes rarely buy it thinking I'm just trying to sell them on something to make us a few extra bucks... yes, it makes us more money, but it still protects you. I tell them straight up... yea, in most cases, it's a waste for you to buy this, but NOT on a tractor. Something WILL break on it in the first 4 years you own it (especially the cheaper ones) and you WILL be calling me to complain once it's out of warranty and not covered. I get these calls all the time, first question I ask "did you buy the extended warranty". Usual answer "uh, no". "Well, if you did, you'd be covered right now".
