Tring to find the best one to suit my needs. I started with the LA145 but told not the best. How reliable is the 300? As far as breaking. I know there are some issues with the tran but there are fixes. Also when is the best time of year to buy one. I can wait till next spring. For snow I have a blower and grass is almost over.
Thanks

I have an X300 with less than 50 hours on it. I mow 3/4 of an acre. I also use it a lot for moving material around (in a garden trailer). All in all, I like the X300 but if I had to do it again, I would go for a model with a stronger transaxle. Probably the 500 series

I have a X300 that is a few years old. I only have about 100 hours on it. So far I am very happy with it. I mow 1 acre and use the plow for snow. I do have a walk behind blower for the big storms. So far no issues with the tranny.

My two complaints are -

1) attaching the bagging chute is a disaster. It was so hard I was sure they gave me the wrong one. Dealer promptly came out and even he had a hard time. Took two guys to pry it into its correct postion. I was then told "its plastic so eventually it will weaken so it will be easier". So far it has not.

2) installing the mulch plug is also extremely hard.

good luck on the decision !

great machine from the frame to the engine, it just has the wrong trans-axle in it...

For that reason, I personally wouldn't buy one.. My sights would be set on the X500 series, unless my only usage was going to be mowing a ruler flat, postage stamp lawn.

Eventually the trans-axle is going to let go and then you will be upgrading to a K66 and it's not a cheap swap out.

Just my $0.02

In my humble opinion, it should be a X320 minimum, it at least has a K58 rear end in it.
You sure don't read on this forum about K58s like you do the K46.

The K58 should have been specked for all X300 series machines. It would also be the logical step up from the LA 165/LA175 that come with the K46. The lower LA series comes with an even weaker T40!!!

And how many have been a X300/K46???? Almost all the threads I've seen are the LA series.

A suggestion if you aren't afraid of used, Here in Columbus, Ohio the dealer had fleet returns, the one I bought was at an military location and had 25 hours on it in the season it was out. X320 for around $2500
