Thinking about buying one of these models. $4700 for the 650 with no attachments and $5500 for the 750 with some attachments. There probably not considered a true jd due to the fact they were made by yanmar, but are they built to simliar quality as a jd? Any specific problems with either machine and what should I look for when inspecting the unit? I read in another post that parts were obsolete, should I be concerned or will I be able to find parts readily available? Anyone have a similiar machine that can share pros and cons? Should I even consider these machines or should I stay away?

Thanks,
Hillbilly

hillbilly,

Deere tractors manufactured by Yanmar are considered some of the best and most reliable tractors made. The 650 was considered a little underpowered for its day (you don't state your usage needs), but the 750 was a real workhorse. The 750 became the 770 and then the 790 and now 3005, and it hasn't changed much.

I would be surprised if most parts weren't available, though you might want to check with your dealer first. On thing to remember, is that you are dealing with machines from 20-28 years old, so maintenance and usage (or misuse) are always factors. :)

I think you will find most parts available. Things that aren't offered any more are things like power steering add-on kits or scv kits. You won't find attachments like loaders available from deere anymore, but there are plenty of aftermarket companies to supply those. If they are in good mechanical condition, I wouldn't be afraid of them.
