Hey dere;

On the single stage 42" blower where you adjust the chain tension, the drive end is not parallel by 1/8" to the blower housing proper . So,,, how much of a deal is this, or not at all? All the book say is take the slop out.

all the best

Not sure what you are saying. Are you saying that one gear sticks out further then the other. I guess the blower housing is not a reference I would measure from. But with the chain off the sprockets you should be able to take a level, a straight piece of wood, or a Square and place it across the sprockets. If you look it should all be flush. Meaning the sprockets are in alignment. As for stretch chain, mine has a tensioner with a spring that pulls any slack out. Sometimes you just need to replace them when they are worn out. But always keep the chain oil up good because it is metal on metal which does wear. The amount of revolutions that chain makes and the speed of the single stage blower auger you can see just how fast that is turning. Could saw a tree in half.

To adjust the chain on a single stage you must remove the chain cover and loosen the rear stud on the chain cover plate. Then pull back on the rear shaft until your chain is tight enough. Then re-tighten the rear stud.
The end play in the shaft is adjusted by moving the drive pulley in and out on the shaft.
