I have a 446 with an onan. I use 15w40 in the hydraulic system, would it hurt anything to use it in the engine also?

Highly recommended to use SAE 30 in the Onan during warm weather ... doesn't play well with the multi-viscosity oils.

For winter you could go to a 10W30 or even 5W30 if you have a very cold area.

I was also wondering about this.
It gets cold here (-35 or colder) so would 5w30 be my best bet?
I run 5w30 in my walk behind blower.

I would be more comfortable with 5W-20 in those conditions and try to warm things up a little before starting. -35 F is pretty brutal on anything requiring lubrication ......

Synthetic oil is very important at those temps. Not only will it start easier but will provide much better protection
This is true. I use Amsoil 10w30 or 5w30 during the winter in my b43m Onan 446 and things start much easier. Less strain on the battery too.:fing32:

I do not use my mower in the winter so winter oil is not a issue with me.

but in the summer mowing months i have used both 15w40 and 30 shell rotella oil in the mower.

The mower runs good on either oil, but it burns less oil on the straight weight 30 oil.
