Hey guys,

Trying to fix up a cheap 70's roto spader I picked up on the side of the road, and of course I broke things along the way. I am trying to find the flywheel (broke fins trying to leverage starter clutch). and a cheap starter clutch. Looking around online, only seeing expensive flywheels. An old manual scan I found lists the flywheel as #297229 off a 5hp briggs, engine series 130900-130999. If you guys have some cheap resources, please let me know!

I'm just familiar with working on them - so far as I know the flywheel and definitely the starter clutch is the same for either horizontal or vertical Briggs of that vintage.

Caveat Emptor - might want to bring your old one along and just pop the recoil housing off to verify the flywheels are the same size, magnets in the same place, etc. but I really think they are going to be the same.

Either engine *should* have the heavy cast iron flywheel you'll need, but make sure someone didn't substitute a lightweight aluminum flywheel off of a lawn mower on there. Your tiller needs the heavy flywheel to run well.

One thing comes to mind - they used two different magnetos and I can't remember for sure if the flywheels were different - I am almost certain that they are.

One has two legs and looks like this. I'm almost certain that's what you'll find on yours and the others:

The other is an older design, has three legs and looks like this:
