Oh, man, did I have a fun time at the UPS shipping center today. What am I going to do with all these unwanted mowers? Can you say "parts machine" x100+?

I shipped two mowers this spring with no problems at all. Did you ship from a store or from a terminal location? What were the problems?
Terminal Location. The guy ripped the package open and told me it wasn't good enough. I told him to ship it as is and he flat out refused. He then started repacking it without telling me I'd be incurring extra fees. It wasn't an excellent job of packing but it was WAY better than my 22261 was packed by the UPS store that it was sent from. The package also magically weighed twenty pounds more than what it did at my house. Anyhow, It was a major PITA (pain in the A$$).

I don't think most people realize how much effort goes into shipping a mower.

I've shipped three of them and they have all arrived safely but the materials are hard to come by and the boxes are hard to find as well. I've spent hours of my time boxing and packing only to ship them for the shipping value. Thats why I don't want to hear any [email protected] about the high cost of shipping. Its expensive for good reason.

You have to find boxes suitable for the job, baby the machine into it, pack it ,pray and break your back lifting these things to wherever your destination is. Its tough, I hear ya Dave.

I was lucky this time, my buyer is local and paid cash. No shipping, no Pay Pal fees. For all my mowers I have used U Haul boxes for about $8 each and I was lucky enough to come across a goldmine of fancy packing paper for free, as much as I could fit in my Grand Cherokee so I've used that with success so far. I definitely prefer the local sale though, that's for sure.

Dang that was lucky. The guy at the UPS store informed me that if you choose insurance and there is damage, UPS will do whatever it takes to side step paying any of it, meaning if they (UPS) doesn't pack it, they won't honor the insurance you bought. So he suggested side stepping the insurance...

usps for heavy stuff, no

i got a used pressure washer sent to be ups.... they left oil in the engine.
needless to say it made a mess and the box had oil stains seeping through to the outside ... lol

i recently sent a 60" 1"x2" steel bar
not solid weights about 6 pounds.
anyway it was inside a fitted box sleeve. and sealed well with packaging tape... ive sent 50 of these things before...no problem

UPS called to say that the package was lost and or damaged, the box did not have a certification on it so they threw it out and are not paying for it.

"oh, thanks !"

"when i got my R7070 shipped to me a few years ago it had no paper or anything in it. Just a box around it. It didnt get ruined either"

Same here with my little 19inch 5237, all the guy put in the box were two scrawny pieces of Styrofoam. It came to me in awesome condition, no cracks, chips or anything. Even the box itself was in great condition. DHL sure knows how to ship a mower!:trink40:

Find a cheap box...
Put mower in a garbage bag...
Spray a can of foam in the bottom of the box...
Put mower in box...
Spray more foam on top and close box...
When the foam gets hard you can play football with it...

Spray the top foam into another garbage bag?
That spray foam is what some companies use and it looks like it would really protect the items. How much is that stuff and where can you get it?

By the way 2201, the LB I got from you was well packaged and arrived in very good shape. Especially since it was UPS. I have seen them destroy even well packed boxes. I use the same boxes you sent mine in. Wardrobe box from U-Haul. Might be the large wardrobe, but yes, same one. They work pretty good.

On damage coverage. I sent an M through UPS and the handles got crushed. UPS called me and discussed it with me, but they paid the damage. I was shocked. Simply because, the discussion was not going in that direction to begin with. I was told that I had NOT packaged it properly and that UPS is not geared to handle that heavy of an item. Still, they paid the claim. I will use someone else from now on, but who. Fedex sounds good for John. May give them a try. :praying:
