Ok I've cleaned my new 332 yanmar up, degreased the engine and cleaned up the dirt everywhere. Tomorrow I will be getting done fresh oil and filter for it. So I have a couple questions.

1. what engine oil do you recommend I use? (besides JD brand as there are no close dealers)

2.where exactly do I pour in the oil?? There is a dipstick I see, an oil fill cap on the left side of the engine, and an oil cap right on the top of the engine? Are these two different things?

3. I also plan on changing out the transaxle fluid and was also wondering what type of oil to use in that. (Again non JD brand)

4. Last but not least I want to flush the coolant system and give it all fresh stuff. What's the best way to go about that and again what fluid/mixture should I use?

Thanks in advance.

1. I use Valvoline Diesel 15W-40 in my Yanmar and have had no trouble.

2. Either yellow cap can be used, but the one on the right will be easier, due to the fuel solenoid and air hose.

3. I highly recommend the JD fluid (Lo Vis Hygard) , but you can use ATF Type F.

4. You should use 50/50 coolant/water ratio.

:ditto: Except check what hydraulic fluid is in it now. If it is red you can use Type F ATF or switch to JD Lo Vis Hygard. However, if it is a golden brown color which means someone already switched to JD Lo Vis Hygard then that is the only thing you should use. :fing32:

You can also find fluids with specs similar to low vis at your local farm store. I think it is spec c John Deere but don't quote me on that.

Is there a specific procedure in changing the transaxle hydro oil? Or just dump the oil remove filter, put on new filter and fill up? Or does the system have to be bled or anything like that?
Same thing with the coolant, just drain it and slowly fill it so you don't get an air lock in the system? Thanks again

Just drain it,and plan on being patient when refilling it,it goes slow, then jack up the rear wheels, start the motor and work the fwd rev lever until you have wheel movement.they will turn backwards from one another. 6 qts

No bleeding required for the system. But you will only get about 1/2 changed do to lines, cylinders, valves, etc. So if changing fluids to a different type it often should be changed twice then or if things are really dirty.

Coolant-there is two drains. One on the radiator and one on the side of the engine block near the oil filter. Helps contain the mess if you put 1/4 inch hose on those as well as the "over flow" on top of the radiator as you likely will over fill it and as it heats up it will dump some out and the fan will blow it everywhere and you may be searching for a leak that isn't there (been there, done that). I find roughly an inch below the bottom of the fill neck on the radiator is where things settled down. Shouldn't really need to "flush" unless you can see a lot of junk as those two drain spots get the majority of things out. It isn't like a car that has a heater core that is next to impossible to remove the old coolant out off.

Since you are up North I would shy away from a 15W-40 oil You want the 40 part but you will want either a 0W-40 or a 5W-40 if you use in the winter as the oil is pretty thick to pump around when cold. If you look at the temp ranges on the oil ratings you will see what I mean on that. If you install/use a block heater then it isn't as critical or have a heated garage. The first number applies more to starting a cold engine.

Also-filling the engine oil-you fill in either yellow cap that you can get to. I can't remove one of mine as the injection pump is in the way. There is two plugs as this engine wasn't only used in JD.

Hello ,one thing to check is that lower hose for the transaxle . A lot of times they are just about ready to give out and dump all that new oil every where . They are cheap and do not forget the spring . This is a great time for you to change that hose , that is most likey been on the machine since new .
