New to the world of tractors...

We just bought our first tractor,a MF 40 industrial of unknown year but it is all there and runs good.
It DOES smoke under load however but this might be due to sitting for so long...or it simply is tired.
I plan to change the filters and fluids this coming weekend as well as drain the tank and put in fresh diesel.

From reading online it seems this particular model has the same engine as a 135 but was designed for construction.

Ours has a 3PH and PTO as well as shuttle shift and a factory front end loader
If anyone has any info it would be appreciated.

These guys sell reproductions of old manuals:

http://www.jensales.com/Product_List.aspx?model=40&make=MASSEY+FERGUSON&cat=manuals

They offer a parts, service and owner's manual for the 40. I wouldn't bother buying a parts manual since you can still go to the Agco web site and view their parts books online.

Thanks,I already ordered an operators manual.

I tried going to the Agco website to look at parts(need a few things like hand throttle linkage) but it seems you have to register with your nearest dealer to log in...

Actually you don't. Just below the sign in for registered users is a sign in for guests, just click on that and your in. You have to be using Internet Explorer and you need some plug-in from Adobe which they don't support anymore. But you can download it here:

Maybe it is because I am using Firefox???
Thanks.
I hope to learn a few things and figure out just exactly how to use this tractor properly...

Probably. I'm not a big fan of Internet Explorer but if I need to use it to view parts books then I use it...reluctantly.
