I have just hauled my dad's 16G tractor from PA to central Florida where I will be using it in my wooded property - no grass to cut or snow to push :) I will be fabricating a FEL with electric actuators - i did a similar build on a 2000 Simplicity Sovereign last year. Probably also going to make forks for minor lifting projects. The simplicity easily hauled 300lb in the bucket and it is not as heavy duty as this 16G.

Model number is 987004, serial number is 000834, base on similar serial numbers i assume this is from 1995 or so, however an email from Arians dates it as 1984? Is there any way ton confirm this, unfortunately couldn't find the paperwork in my dad's files.

Hour meter has 520 hours on it.

Let’s see a picture of the whole machine. The one you posted suggests nearly new look.

Welcome,

That tractor is a late 1990 or 1991 production, as indicated by the other tag, old # system GRAVELY model 50123.

Here is the IPL for that machine, dated 9/90

Yes, we would love to see pictures.

You can find out more than you ever want to know about the G series tractors in thread:

Latest 16G improvements

Your engine is really 18HP and you can easily add an oil filter if it has not already been done.

I will get some picture up as soon as i can, unfortunately I am out of town dealing with the medical issues that caused me to bring the tractor to FL last month. The machine is in really great shape, garage kept. In the last couple of weeks, I have added larger tires, did the 1" front spindle upgrade (bolt on hubs) that the isavetractors guy has on Youtube and started welding up the FEL.

It has an oil filter, it took me a while to find it, as it is tucked in behind the exhaust.

I did go through the entire improvement thread, great information.

One thing i am going to do is upgrade to the 18G heavier duty steering. I have a pretty good machine shop, so I will probably just make the 1/2" tie rods. If i can figure out how to make internal splines, I will also make the tie rod axle arm, so the only thing i would need to buy is the bushing ends....

will start all of this when i get back in FL in a week or so.

I forget the actual date of the move of production to Wisconsin, but at the oldest that is a mid-90's tractor due to it being manufactured in WI instead of NC.
Respectfully I don't think so. My late 1994 production tractor is model #987061, Shipped on 12/1/94, Sold to me 4/17/96, made in Brillion, does not have a Clemmons tag with an old style number.

His Ariens model number is 987004. His tractor has a Clemmons tag with the old number system showing model #050123. His group of tractors is in fact the last group shown on the parts radar with the old number system, and is also listed with the new number system.

This IPL, that I posted above:

https://www.gravelymanuals.com/pdf/Pro_G_IPL_0990.pdf

On the first page, clearly identifies his model number, 50123, and is clearly dated 09/90 as being the beginning point for that group of model numbers (50120 thru 50125 or Ariens 987001 thru 987006).

His tractor has the engine driven hydraulic lift, the group of tractors that my model number falls in has the original IPL dated 07/94 as the beginning point for that group of models (987058 thru 987063). That is the first group of tractors with the electric/hydraulic lift.

There are two other complete groups of Pro G tractors with 987XXX model numbers between his tractor and mine which would generally account for 1992, 1993 and part of 1994.

There are also "renumbered" Ariens numbers assigned to tractors older then his, the last of the 8000-G tractors.

There are also 987XXX numbers missing from the sequence that were never used.

But again, his model number is clearly identified as being introduced as of 09/90, with two other groups of G tractors between his and mine.

When did production move to Billion? I'm not sure. But the new model number system appeared with his group of tractors and was then clearly reverse applied to the last of the 8000-G tractors based on what is shown on the GRAVELY parts radar.

Was the move to Brillion during these overlapping model numbers? 1990-1991?

What we need is one of the guys with access to run the model and serial number thru the Ariens system........

Thanks for all the assistance. I will be back into town in a week or so, will post more pictures then. I am really impressed with this machine, started right up with a little starter fluid after sitting in a garage for 4+ years.
