Well, I'm new to this John Deere thingy....never owned one in my life, my dad has several, but never me personally. I picked this up yesterday on a looooong road trip and have many questions....but I'll start with just a few.

Questions.....

1) At what throttle position do you guys mow with? (i know it's a ways away from spring but just wondering)

2) What RPM and what direction does the rear PTO turn (doesn't have though.....yet)

3) Will a 3Pt. hitch from a 420 bolt directly to my 430? and what parts will I need to take off of the 420 (if it fits) I know a guy that has 2 420's and he said he would sell me a 3pt. off one.

4) Is there anywhere I can go to get instructions on how to mount the deck?

5) Do they make gator blades for this deck? (60") and if so, do you recommend them and where can I find them?

I'll have LOTS more questions to come but this is enough for now.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

1. The mower deck is designed to operate at WOT, but just under wide open works fine.

2. The rear pto is a 2000 rpm set up. Hard to find implements for. I don't know the rotation direction.

3. The rear on a 420 is identical to a 430. It is the front implements (or more precisely, the attachment parts) that differ from the 420 due to the lengthened frame to fit the diesel and the cooling system.

4. Lots of 420/430 owners here. Otherwise, manuals are available through JD or used through Ebay.

5. I have no personal experience with the 60" deck, but I'm sure Gator has blades for it. Someone else with one will stop by and give us that info, I'm sure.

BTW, for being new at this 'thingy', you sure picked a winner to get your feet wet with.

It won't hurt it. Someone took the right rim, and put it on the left. Or took the rims off, and turned them around. They fit either way. More stable turned out wide, but more stress on the axle.
Cat got ya set up on what they did.. I was just thinking.. for mowing and such if you dont have steep hills.. going narrow might work better.. and less space is taken up in the shop.. Nice machine.. Sure is shiny.

Very nice way to start off. Looks like some of the plugs for the front hydraulic ports are missing and the one is just hanging. You may want to get them replaced to keep all the dirt out of them.
