OK, I am down for the next few months after having neck surgery, in the mean time my son-in-law has given me a HDS2165 he did not want anymore nor could he find anyone who wanted it. So after he delivered said tractor I have so far seen (cannot work on it since I am SO restricted) the mower deck caster wheel bracket on the front is broke completely off and several parts appear to be missing. Pulleys bent, height handle bent and rewelded cocked and near impossible to move, etc.

First ?, where can I find a manual for a 48" deck. I can find the S/N but no model for the deck. Any special tricks to reinforce the casters since they look like light weight mount designs.

Second ?, the rear fender section where the seat bolts on is COMPLETELY trashed. Broken and missing parts of the sheet metal. I have an idea on how to use a couple of flat 1/16" or 1/8" plates to make supports to the frame, I would like to know what others have done to fix this since this cannot be the only machine to be broken up at the seat mount.

First thing I intend to when allowed some effort is a good pressure washing & tune up & complete oil & filter service as a start since it has 474 hours on it and I really do not think it has ever been changed.

I am sure there will be MANY more ?s when I finally get to start on this thing, till then it is research & stocking up on part/supplies.

Get some later today, waiting on happy pills kick in...
Man that baby sounds used and abused! Here's some pics on how the whole machine and 48" should look. I believe that 48" is/was considered the HD deck, but those casters do tend to get caught on stuff. http://cgi.ebay.com/CUB-CADET-GT2521-TRACTOR-48-MOWER-DECK-21-HORSE-POWER_W0QQitemZ370223442489QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5633096a39&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1205|293%3A1|294%3A50

Yeah, it looked fair when I first saw it at a distance, close up, not so much. Here are a few pics & thanks to a visit I "convinced" them to remove the fender section from the tractor.

For almost free I cannot complain, (he needed to borrow some tools, probably last I will see of them) but now I understand why no one wanted it.

If the caster mount that is still on the right side is correct then all I have to say is it really is a "P" poor system. I might modify the fronts to match the 48" deck on my 845 MTD. Harder on the wheel but at least they don't break off.

Oh well, plenty of time to "refine" a design/redesign mount :thThumbsU

For such a new mower is sure got trashed. I hope he didn't buy that thing new and throw that money. Neighbors around here have some that old and older that look brand new and mow several acres a week!.

Looks like that machine was left out in the rain alot!.. Also looks like the deck was used for more than just mowing! The fender resembles the one I just threw away on my 2160 "bargain" I just got a couple months ago.. The deck on this one was the major selling point cuz the owner bought the heavy duty 10 guage deck and it was in good shape.. I checked a few spots and the fender isn't available so I consulted good ole' CL and found a parts donor tractor and scored a decent fender for $50.. So since you're laid up search around and see if you can find some parts for this as it really is a nice mowing machine and is worth a little $$ as long as the motor & tranny are good! Hope ya feel better soon!

I do not know if he got it new or not but the replacement he bought was a Bush Hog brand zero turn mow and he was laughing about how the first time he used it he ran over a concrete block. I tend to think the boy is a bit "hard" on things.

I checked around and could not find any parts machines around close so I had the "Real Boss" help (after the doctor said I could start doing light things around home) build a bracket to give the seat SOLID support instead of only the sheet metal fenders. The wife did the hard stuff to make the support, all I did was weld it together and paint it.

Here are a few pics, tell me what you think.
