Hello,
Just joined the world of tractor owners with a Farmall 140. Trying to get it running. Don't know if it's 12V or 6V. Look forward to learning more about it.

Count the caps on your battery - 2 volts per cap, so 3 caps = 6 volts, etc.

If you have alternator instead of a generator, you probably have a 12 volt system.

Tractor doesn't have a battery right now. I don't know if its a alternator or generator, but I'm guessing alternator. IT has a white voltage regulator? on the back of it. The starter solenoid is stamped 12V, but the previous owner told me where to buy the 6V battery for it, so that's what confused me. THe Serial Number is 65445 so I think its a 79. Any ideas?
