Welcome Reefer, good to have you aboard here with us and congrats on your newest acquisition :fing32:.
Hello and Welcome, congrats on the mower fine machine I am a new 185 owner myself. Havn't even cut all my grass yet.Let me know if you have any questions.
Welcome aboard, post up some pics of your Deere when you can!
In it's day It was a great mower. I had 3 of them. Only one minor problem. I had chains, weights, and a front blade.And it was worked. However I spun the Flywheel Shearing the Key, on one , That was not the kaw. fault but mine. Replaced the Key and it ran like new. The 185 Is a very good machine. A keeper. Life is good on a DEERE;

Welcome to the forum! :Welcome1: As mentioned, the 185 was a great design. I had one for a number of years. :)
Welcome. I have a 185 as well and it works great!
I also just bought a 185. The front axle and the steering wheel were broke and it needed a good cleaning and some paint. I've been using a 116 for mowing for the last 22 years. I'll have to decide which one to keep!

What size tires are those? they look big. Nice shiny tractor!! Mine needs a paint job like that too!! Did you use the expensive deere paint??

How is it that your seat isn't cracked?

Unless your 116 is a hydro once you mow with the 185 you'll never go back.

Those look like the 20" rear tires. I think they go with the 46" deck. I have them on my 180 but the 185 has the 18" tires and a 38" deck.

The rears on my 185 say that they're 20", but they sure don't measure that!! 22" ATV tires are in the range of 6" taller..... I'm thinking bigger tires to give the deck more clearance!

Which deck?
18" vs. 20" wheels is the rim size. You may not have much more clearance for a taller tire and the deck may be harder to level.
I believe the rear tires are 20x10x8 which is on an 8" wheel. They seem smaller than a 20" tall tire though.
They are 20 inch tires, same as the 116. The 116 is also hydro so they are pretty similar. The seat on the 116 isn't cracked either....both were always kept inside so I suppose that helps. Expensive paint? You're gonna laugh....machine green Rustoleum from Lowes - two cans for about $9. I was going to buy a spray gun and do it right (well try anyway) but decided what the heck, I'll give this a try. It actually came out quite nice.

Great paint job and good enough for the 185, Just had a 175 front axle welded and the steering wheel is broken ( lotta that going around I guess ) The mower deck looks good too !!
I'm pretty happy with it, it cleaned up nice. Especially considering I now have $195 dollars invested in it, including the gas to pick it up. :)
You can also get John Deere green and yellow paint at Ace Hardware stores. I guess they licensed the color from Deere since it uses the JD logo on the can.
