Hey everyone. I'm new here, and my name is Ken. I picked up a Bolens tube-frame tractor recently, and I'm a bit confused as to what the heck it really is.

The hood would have me believe it's a Husky 1253. From what I've read, they all had a Tecumseh engine. This gem has a Wisconsin TRA-10D in it. The cracked steering wheel is/was white with a round center cap. I have yet to find a tag on the thing anywhere. Any hidden stamping #'s I should know about? I'm guessing this is either a 1050 with donor body panels, or a repowered 1253. It's a regular 3-speed manual with hi-low, not hydrostatic drive. I'm going to attempt to attach some pics, so here goes...

Thanks in advancefor any insight you can give me.

Actually you read wrong, they mostly had Wisconsin engines. The 1500 series had the tecumseh. The 1200 tube frame models mostly if not always had 12 hp Wisconsin's. Looks pretty original and a great find. Not sure on the steering wheel.

Enjoy all of the many Forums we have here on MTF..Lots more here than tractors/mowers!!:goodl:

I would have figured the Wisconsin was stock, but I read this thread last night http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=12606&highlight=1253

I'm also assuming, and correct me if I've got my head where the sun don't shine, that a the 12 in 1253 would be the HP rating, and the 10 in 1054 would be the HP. Isn't the Wisconsin TRA-10D a 10HP engine?

I know it really doesn't matter what it is, but I'd just like to know for my own curiousity more than anything else.

Thanks.

I'm not a Bolens guy, but I'm glad to see you nonetheless.

The real experts can take care of you. If you need a pithy comment or some computer help, look me up.

:MTF_wel2: Ken !, nice to have you aboard here :).
It appears to be a 1050 with donor sheetmetal. The 1050 has brown frame, engine etc with white sheetmetal where the 1253 the entire tractor is the color of the hood you have on it now. The 1253 and 1257 were Tecumseh engines and the 1050,1053,1254, and 1256 were wisconsins. The steering wheel on your picture is a 1050 wheel. A 1253 wheel is slightly smaller and black. The 1253 also has frame siderail covers. Personally I think the Tecumsehs run stronger and are less hassle with the pointless ignition and less complex walbro carb.
