I finally got the brinly plow and new tires for the tractor.
Went out and plowed a small garden area for next year.

I didn't think the DGT6000 would do it :) worried about that hydro after all the stuff people say about them, but in the end it worked great (hydro gear 311-3500).

Figured I would post this as a reference, cause I couldn't find any other post on the internet about a 311-3500 hydro gear in a craftsman GT series pulling a brinly plow. Plenty of topics with manual trans, but hardly any with hydros.

I don't think the new Craftsmans can do that, but I don't see why yours couldn't. I've been really impressed with the GT5000 and the DGT6000's like yours. They do great work. When I started on this forum I found so many of those tractors being worked hard. Those hydros seem to hold up very well and have a high continuous torque rating if I remember.

Just reading around made me nervous though, cause many say the belts will burn, hydro will go out, etc.. etc.. I just took my time and eased it the best I could.

I can say that is the hardest the tractor has worked since I have owned it, and will most likely be the hardest ever. Next time shouldn't be as hard since the ground was already turned.

looking good. if a GT series tractor can't be expected to pull a plow that speaks volumes about that line. there ar emany folks on here who swear modern machines are incapable of ground engagin work, i say BS. they won't do some of the loader work the older machines could, but then again the older machiens were also designed like the higher dealer GT lines are now.

Got the tires off eBay (GCT Wholesale http://stores.shop.ebay.com/GCT-Wholesale__W0QQ_armrsZ1), I can't afford the (in my opinion) over priced carlisle, so I ended up with the duro brand. Still a decent 4 ply tire ($98 +25 shipping for the pair). I really didn't want to go to the smaller 23x10.50-12 but I decided to go ahead and get the super lug tires. I would of liked the AT101's tires but they to were higher priced, comparable to the carlisle super lug price.

I did some mowing yesterday and found that it is a little harder to turn on some hills now, as my tractor keeps wanting to go straight. It didn't do this before with the original turf tires. No big deal though, I just changed the way I approached the hills so I can steer it around the corner of the yard there.

I purposely went for the smaller 23" size to give my tractor a slight advantage in torque. I don't care about speed, I just want it to pull and push. :)
