I just picked this one up friday night with a very nice 50" deck and 42" blade and the IH manual. Started it up and loaded in my van the trans is very smooth and quiet and the sheet metal is very straight. The paint is untouched but the deck has had a repaint. She's gonna need a new seat as he had pitched the old one and a carb rebuild but everything works great on it and only showing 962hrs on the ticker. At $200.00 I think I done ok on this one what do you think?

Congratulations on the new 782
Nice score!
Are there any common problems with this model as this is my first cub. I have had several kohler magnums but not the series 2 kt anything good or bad on these engines?

Baby moons are pretty cool! Its a kohler 17hp twin or kohler kt17 series 2 and I have never owned one of these so not expierienced with this model. Thanks for your input!
I can tell you from experience that the series 2 is much better motor than a 1! I have a 1981 782 with the series 1 engine in it. Right now it has a hole in the block. The series 2 has a better design for the oil pump and journals. But still no complaints it is 30+ years old and all original.
Sounds great I look forward to using this one!

Very nice. slkpk
You are a thief!! LOL Boy did you steal that. That is in great shape. 1 thing to do if your new to the magnum engine is put in a fuel shut off in line. The carb/fuel pump has a tendency to flood the engine with gas when it's not running. Which kills them. Always check the oil for gas before running them. Very common problem. Keep the oil clean.
Good luck with it.

Great advice as the tractor is having this issue and the P/O informed me of this. The tractor has the fuel shutoff but you have to remove the side cover each time to use it. I figured if fuel is getting in the oil then its a carb issue (needle&seat) so I am picking up a carb kit today. Do these engines have fuel pumps?
The Magnum is a fine engine. Replaced the K model and just as tough. Hope you kissed the PO for that steal...

Ive never seen baby moon hubcaps sell for that high of a price. If they were original IH hubcaps, then yes, that price would be common. But almost $200 for a set of plain baby moons, Ive never heard of it. If that is the case, then Ill have some for sale very soon.

Also, not to change subjects, but you got one heluva deal on that 782! That looks to be in great shape and the series II engines are the better of the two that came in those machines. Great find and how bout some more pics!
I am loving this tractor more and more as this goes on its built like a tank plus I'm crazy about the red color sceme. Thanks for all your input and I had a question about the carb rebuild kits and fuel pumps it seems as this one has a metal bodied fuel pump and the replacements are abs plastic. Anyone have any experience with these newer fuel pumps and is there a rebuild kit available for my old pump as I don't really like the idea of a plastic pump! Call me old fashioned but I would take steel over plastic any day! also considering some new ribbed front tires but would like something in a deep rib the ones I have seen on the net all have a very shallow tread. I am going to check out Miller Tire later today.

I now have 2 mag 18's and use to have a 782 with a mag 17.I never shut the gas off and have never had trouble but now you got me thinking i should.Do you run the engine out of gas?(after you shut fuel off)
Every once in a while my needle and seat leaked. Also the fuel pumps that went bad leaked fuel in the crankcase also. I just put the shut off just in case it happened again. The pump is new and the carb was rebuilt a couple years ago. The shut off is just precautionary. I dont run the fuel out of the carb. It's mainly because the tank is much higher then the carb.
