Is this the cylinder that was replaced by Flip, because of a problem?

Hi Mark, yes it was. I bought a 7/16-20 tap, chased the threads and it cleaned right up. Below is image of the weld slag found upon receipt. After I chased the threads, it's good as new.

Tapping the threads to remove a piece of weld slag!?? Really?? I hasn't been used or had hydraulic fluid in it - sheez....

YES ...REALLY If it was worth so much new...and the manufacturer did not take back and to clean it up and try selling it, there must be concern on their part...how certain are you that you did not send any metal into the cylinder while doing the job on it?

Would you consider it "new in the box" ..if you bought it and found out later that it had some ( no matter how little) work done on it?

MTF prides itself as being the Friendliest Forum. It does not take part in setting up people looking to buy anything as new only to find out it isn't exactly new

I can't speak to their warranty philosophy, strategy or budget, but many manufacturers chose to replace parts rather than trying to get a defective one back for re-machining, as the costs or inconvenience to do such can quickly exceed the cost of a replacement part.

I am certain of not having introduced metal shavings into the cylinder by the manner in which I chased the threads - The tap was coated in grease, and the single piece of weld splatter was secured and found in the flutes of the grease immediately after it was dislodged from the threads.

Gotta agree with Mark. You should provide full disclosure and appropriate notation.

The vendor gave you a free replacement without asking you to return it because they deemed it defective. Even if you have subsequently made a repair, this does not qualify as a “new-in-box” part.

I agree with the above statements. Selling an item as new when the original manufacturer replaced it for free with no obligation to return it lacks integrity. This ad may be more suited for craiglist or Facebook Marketplace.

As discribed he told everything about it ..🤷. Guess it depends how bad you need one.
