Hello, I just bought a wheel horse 310-8 it has not been kept in the best condition its life it has a 12 horse Kohler on it instead of a 10 horse. The wiring is bad because someone jerry rigged it to just barely work. I looked in the transmission and I decided to drain the fluid because on the dip stick all there was was rust and some sludge. What came out of the transmission was all water and lots of rust do you guys think its bad? what should I do? any help would be appreciated.

First fill it with 2 quarts of diesel fuel. If it's running drive it around using all the gears for 30 minuets or so. Then drain it again. You'll have to jack up the front of the tractor to get all the diesel out as there is a ridge in the bottom of the transmission where it bolts together. You might want to do the diesel twice from the way you describe it. Then add two quarts of 85-90 weight.

I don't know how much you know about Wheel Horses. Never shift gears unless you are fully stopped. Especially the high/low as you can break off the shiftier fork. If you find you have some bad bearings after cleaning and need to split the transmission. Post over on Redsquare you can find a lot of information and help there.

I put kerosene in it and spun the axles for a while in all the gears (the tractor is up on a table and the motor does not run as of now) the kerosene came out rusty still I also heard that if you put marvel mystery oil in it it should help. Also is it common for a transmission to be full of water and have no oil in it?
