A friend of mine wants to get rid of his 1999 Huskee premier garden tractor. 46 INCH cut with 20 hp briggs twin cylinder. The mower has always been maintained very well and never abused. I rode it around and I was smothered by the exhaust. After further inspection the exhaust is leaking where the exhaust pipes slide into the muffler. The muffler is located under the tractor beneath the front grill. It has 2 exhaust pipes coming from the engine that seem to just slide into the muffler. I can feel air coming out from there and I feel thats why I am smelling the exhaust so bad. ANy help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Some leakage there is normal. If the exhaust smells that bad, something else is wrong- either it's running two rich, only running on one cylinder, or both.

thanks for the reply. i guess ill have to read up on these engines. im used to the single cylinder ohv briggs. ive had a twin cylinder before but i never did anything to it past changing the starter.
