Hi all - I have a used Craftsman model 842.242561 46 inch snow thrower. I am in need of several critical parts, and have searched the existing forum threads and searched sears partsdirect.com for the matching model 842.242560 to no avail. Its in too good of shape to part out, but I may not have another choice unless I can come up with what I need. Here's the list:

23156 - front lift assembly
23158 - front assy pin
23160 - lift rod
23152 and 23153 - left and right rear mounting brackets, respectively
5737 - Chain and Toggle Assembly (2 of these)
8206 - Control rod extension (I have the handle part - just not the part that attaches to the chute)

I'd appreciate any help or dimensions of the rods and brackets in case I need to just make them. I also have the dirt blade if those mounting brackets will work - although they don't appear to be long enough. Thanks much for the help in advance!

I am pretty sure the brackets for the othe models will work, the 486.242561, 242562

I just picked one up that didn't have the mounting brackets and ordered all of them from sears parts direct. I ordered the parts last saturday and they arrived today.

A1CNC -

Thanks for the tip - can you be a little more specifc with the part numbers you ordered from sears parts direct? Did you get just the mounting brackets or rig up something for the front lift assembly too? Thanks,

Dave

Sounds like you need quite a bit for that blower to work... It may be cheaper to part the other one out.

The 842.242560 and similar were built by Haban, which is no longer in business. As you found, there are very few parts still available for it.

I was looking for skid shoes for a long time, and another MTF member took some photos and measurements of his so that I could fabricate a set. In return I sent him drawings of the parts he needed, the rear frame mounting brackets (23152 and 23153). Here's the drawing and some photos:

(23153 is the same as 23152, but mirrored.)

Here's the owners manual if you don't have it already:

I might have a spare 23160 lift rod and 23158 pin, but I'd have to check. It might be possible to take some photos and measurements, but I have the blower mounted for the season at this point.

If you do end up parting out your blower, I'd be interested in buying some parts from you. These are pretty rugged units, and short of completely running out of parts, they should be around for some time to come.

coloradodave,
I appologise for mis-leading you, I have the (486.248462) 46" Snowblower. I was able to order parts for that from sears parts direct.

It was midnight when I read your post,:sorry1:

I have all the lift stuff, but no brackets. I redid mine for a tractor-mounted lift.
I just made up simple brackets from 1/4" steel plate, unfortunately I left them on the tractor when I scrapped it.
