my suburban repower honda clone

so i re-powered with a gx420 clone motor on my suburban and figured id share some pics of it and tell how and what i did. heres the tractor when it still had the hh120 in it.

after the original engine started giving me problems i decided on the duromax gx420 setup so once it came i started working on it and this is what i came up with.

I didn't want to cut the front grill at all so ended up getting a velocity stack from a go kart vendor and then using a small motorcycle air filter on it. which works great. as far as exhaust original it was just 1 inch pipe welded onto a Harley muffler.

so shortly after i got it in and working hurricane Irene hit and we lost power for a couple days so i figured because i had put a automotive alternator on anyway why not just get a big cap and a power inverter so i can use the tractor as a generator too so i got to work on that and it came out pretty nice and you cant see any off the electrical with the hood closed.

the latest was today i hadn't ever rejeted after i made the exhaust and set the better air filter and velocity stack up so i figured it was time and because i was never really happy with how restrictive the 1 inch pipe with a bunch of 90s was i remade the exhaust set up using the chrome 1.5 inch tubing that came with the Harley mufflers i had got for the stacks. so now it comes right off the exhaust flange into the larger pipe with no tight bends. It both looks and performs allot better after all that a 120 main jet is perfect.

Anyway let me know what you think :trink40: also i know i left out alot so if you want anymore info just ask

:thThumbsU:thThumbsU Looks Good, I like the Idea of the power Inverter. That is very cool
Nice work looks great I like the HD pipes and the generator is really cool idea, that's the coolest generator I have ever seen.
that thing is SWEET! got any videos of it running so we can hear the exhaust?

:ditto:
Thanks guys yeah I'm pretty proud of it. I'll make a video with a walk around in the morning. The exhaust really isn't very loud has a nice little rumble but not obnoxious at all and based on the 120 main jet it took it flows real well.
Im gonna get a vid up for you guys shortly. also if anybody has a original gas cap in real nice shape they would like to sell me id really appreciate it that would pretty much complete this project.
Very nice-what's the deal strapped to the hood brace,,a coil?? Oh,BTW---I bet I can quess who's the boss of your outfit!! She's Cute as a button.

thanks! yeah i have a video of her pulling me in a little trailer someware.

Its a audio capacitor i have it there to help the batt and alternator because i use the tractor to run a 2500 watt inverter so i can use it as a generator. so alternator goes to battery then battery goes to cap then on to the quick disconnects. video with a little walk around and it running will be up in a minute.
OK guys heres the vid its dirty and so is my shop at the moment. let me know any questions and opinions.

you know i went back and forth on going with a ten horse deisel or going the way i did, i dont remember why i chose one way or the other though. :banghead3 either way make sure to put up a bunch of pics of how you did it and some video.
Nice work :fing32:
Nice job on the re-power!! Can I see a pic of the clutch side of the tractor? I'd like to see how you have the alt mounted.
thanks suburban 16! ill try and go take some today or tmro. alternator mount mostly uses brackets i made to use the mounts for the clone gas tank. they came out pretty good but its a solid mount i need to make them adjustable whenever i get a chance just in case the belt stretches to much.
Looks great! I did a Honda Clone in my 68 Super 12

Thats the same engine I am considering for the ST16 I have. Good job on your swap. Looks great. Hows does the engine feel power wise?
Gt80- looks good nice tractor

Power wise it's real good especially after jetting I'm thing about advancing the timing a couple degrees and see what that gets me. As it is now its a definetly improvent over the 12 in pretty much every aspect.
