I just wanted to update you guys on that Toro I found. This is my first non-BBC Toro and I'm digging it so far. It's so well balanced compared to my Suzuki BBC's. They feel like tanks after using this! So it's been getting quite a bit of use in the back yard.
The Tecumseh has been great so far. Always starts on the first pull and runs great. But I still hate working on these things! The old carb-block gasket was a BEAR to scrape off and replace. Even replacing the primer bulb was a nightmare. I also had to replace the recoil because it had somehow come apart. But it's working fine now. Still needs and oil change and new air cleaner. The transmission's been regreased.
I still can't get used to the zone start control. I often tend to lower the bar too much and start to kill the engine. So I ended up make a rope loop that holds the bar at the right position. Much better! I also need some traction so I slapped on a set of Proline wheels. Not the best set but they'll do for now. I have a new set of rear plastic wheels and I'll probably use them because it's lighter and I'll use it just in the back yard. It's lost a lot of paint at the back so I think a full repaint will be in order someday.
Overall this thing is awesome so far. If you don't like the weight and complexity of the BBC models, grab one of these. I'd love to try one of these with a 2-stroke Suzuki. :trink40:
