That looks like a nice cab for the U55. Would be a very welcome improvement, specially with that white stuff you have there.👍

Some pictures of the boring bar in use. I actually ended up using about 9" stick out on the bar. It chattered a bit when I was doing rough cuts. I had to take the cylinder barrel from 40 to 60 mm. That's why I couldn't quite use Mark's technique, even though that technique came to my mind as I remembered an old picture from Mark.

I took cuts of 1 mm (0.040") in diameter at around 360 RPMs with the highest feed selected. I could go deeper but I had a small bit and a couple holes on the barrel that would cause some issues with an heavier cut. I did have to use a couple of clamps on the compound and crosslide ways. With a boring bar sticking out that long, every bit of play on the ways will show up quite fast.

Then took the two final passes about 0.30 mm (0.011") in diameter with a very slow feed and RPMs, about 135. Took over 15 min per pass but did leave a very nice and smooth finish. I just polished it a bit more to take any high spots that could damage the piston seals.

I'll show where this cylinder is going once the paint dries and I assemble the project.

Speaking of projects, I had this project for someone else lined up but they ended up backing up on the deal and took another route. It was a bit overwhelming size wise but definitely a cool project and would actually be a good funding for a good TIG welder.

Basically, the project was converting a regular bulldozer blade to a angledozer, where the blade would rotate left and right about 30 degrees. It was an old CAT D4D, the first ones without the Power shift transmissions, that was fitted with a D5 or D6 blade.

They ended up hiring someone to do the landscaping work, instead of buying this machine and do themselves the work.

Probably not.
Their generic cabin would have issues such as the door and other areas that do not seem to fit properly.

I'd be more likely to make my own than to drop 3G on a cabin.

It's way down the list though.

Dude! That's awesome work!!

Too bad as far as loosing the TIG funding.
That would have been quite a job.
My little 12,000lb ex has a huge piece for the angle, no where near that size.

Keep up the good work.

That boring thing I made is only for rough work; I suppose in theory you could bore at the exact bearing size, but even then there's nothing to keep the bore in a straight line.

I bought a 'vehicle recovery winch' from ebay; for 50 GBP it didn't say what sort of vehicles it's able to recover, it would do light motorbikes maybe.
Anyway, it has a 30A [ish] permanent magnet motor and serious gear reduction, relays, and a remote control that has to be good for something. even the steel cable is probably ok.

I have a cunning plan...

Notice the spline on the right of the shaft was on the table in the first picture.

At least you don't quite get these kind of trucks up there:

These will easily pull on side of the machine, pick it up and just drive off.

Happens all the time here as it's a completely legit setup and no one will know if they are the owners picking the machine or someone stealing it. Unless the actual owner happens to pass by.

They steal all kinds of machines, tractors and other types of equipment.
In my crime infested city, they just leave them parked on the street.

It's been there for a week now.

A brand new Yanmar.

Here is a driveway shot, not quite a street view.

Mark, looks interesting.
I have no idea what your going to do with that.

Big stuff for sure; but I don't need to go that far for machine shop envy. I can just look at Pedro's pics, or Biker's [haven't heard from Biker in a while], or even visit the machinist up the road.

It's raining here a bit; this is a good thing. Northern Portugal is getting a deluge, but down here we're happy for drizzle at this point.

Merry merry and all that, or as we say around here, Feliz Natal, bom festas.

Yeah, Pedro's pic's are a good source for sure.
There are a few small shops up here and one that would cover most of a football field but they just manufacture boring old electrical stuff.
So not a lot as far as visiting goes.
I guess I don't get out that often.
Good that your getting some moisture, only drizzle is better than none,
so is that to say that the rain in Spain, falls mostly . . . . . .

We have been back to showers for a few days & partly cloudy for a couple days routine.
That seems to be the new pattern sort of like last year.
We get the cold wind to go with the drizzle which is enough to keep me inside.
