Well, now here is an old one, that is similar to my old 84, but seems older somehow. Whadya think, BBY?

Ok, the 84 Murray that I had has rectangular headlights. Yet the No Name Murray built that I just sold, was built the same year and had round sealed beam headlights. This one is a Murray, but very different hood, and grill is very different. So is it a late 70's or just different production for the same era of the early to mid 80's?

Inquiring minds want to know!

That's in really nice shape. The grille chrome looks good, no dented bent metal, even still has the small orange Murray decal in the lower right hand corner. Some people know how to take care of something, it's sitting in a garage right now........................Tennessee is Murray heaven.

I'll try to peg down a year.

My best guess is she is a 1981. They had that basic hood/grille design [by far my favorite] from 1975 to 1981 but made a "flat spot" on the grille for that decal in 1981 only.

I saw that one on CL earlier this week. I'd like to have it myself. My folks and I had one exactly like that through the 80's and early 90's. It was a 1980 model tractor. The engine was made in late '79. That was a tough old mower.

I was wondering ...... we had this discussion before, but when did Murray go with rectangular headlights like my 84 Murray had? Was Murray doing different model lines even back then? Or was this model likely the last of the sealed beam headlights for Murray. I mention it since the No Name Murray I recently sold still had the round headlights in it. But if I remember right the parts diagram for it had round headlights, too.

EDIT: No, the parts diagram had rectangular headlights in the grille for Murray!

So they must have had different lines going at the same time......

Looks like 1982 was the first year hankll. I think that light set up that the K Mart tractor and the Agway GT have was exclusive to rebadged tractors and not used in Murray badged tractors. I have never seen a tractor with that particular chrome insert and headlights in a Murray badged machine. Not yet anyway. Heres a 1982 Murray, the first one that shows square headlights.............

Makes sense......But again, that Murray is in pretty nice condition.

And BBY, you just need to take a shot at the South and move down here. When you say this is Murray heaven down here, I'd agree totally. And anytime I can get one for a song, I'm way more comfortable working on one and refurbing it, than the other not as good brands.

Well, I finally bought a trailer today, so when a Murray shows up that's a good deal I can at least go get it now. I see CL ads with with people saying "Just get this tractor off my property" or "Tractor clicks when key turned, bought new one this one needs to go" so maybe I'll score a few winners. As a matter of fact, it's first official duty should be picking a 1999 Wide Body down In Jersey. I bought it for the Briggs twin to repower my Select, but now I'm not sure what route I'm gonna take. I may put my effort into the '99 instead. I should do a thread on it, get everyones opinions........

That is a pretty nice trailer. With a ramp tailgate, even. More than I have. I had to buy the folding ramps from Harbor Freight. Heavy buggers.

Congrats! Now you can start making some refurb dollars in your spare time. That is what I've resorted to, now. Went and got a driving job again. Plus driving at nite. Times is hard, and you got to do what it takes to bring the money in.
