My 990, replaced the engine with a Kohler 20 running on propane. Great little tractor.. Went through it completely in the spring.

Getting back to the topic... here is my 1996 MTD Yardman 999. I have never quite figured out the differences in the 900 series. I know there is a big deal made of the 990s. But then there are the 995s; 996s and 998s that are somehow "less" than the 990s? (They don't make them like they used to?) I just don't get it.

Quite simply, Yardman, the 990s are cheap and plentiful.
My son's perfectly running 990 with snow blade, snow blower, and snowchains was a whopping $425.
So the person without a big budget really digs these 990s.

My 1976 990 has a 3/16 stamped channel frame I do not think the newer 900 series are the same. The newer models have the same hydro an improved 3PH and updated engine. They are all great tractors. The older models were made different. I like the older models.
