Briggs 18.5 model 42A707 - the double pulley on the motor shaft slides up and down, but the key is still intact. How is this pulley tightened to stay in place, once it is aligned with the deck pulleys?:thanku:

There should be a set screw in the side of the hub, usually over the slot for the key, and usually hard to see as they are headless bolts requiring an Allen wrench (hex drive) to tighten. Any dirt in the area will hide that set screw.

Found no set screws anywhere on the pulley. Called BIL who installed this used Briggs, and he said that this stack pulley is secured in place by a bolt, lockwasher and washer which goes into the bottom of the motor shaft. Looks like I'll be heading uptown to the hardware store for a new bolt , etc., in the morning....
