More fun with the sickle bar

I have in mind a construction project which requires a bit of clearing. Went out back with a chainsaw and the L8/sickle bar. That's a pretty effective combination :)

I didn't think to take any proper before pix, but here's one of a representative area that I haven't hacked yet, and another area next to it after I've been through it.

One source of consternation was that after I was about done, I discovered chopped up pieces of barbed wire :Stop: Oops. Guess somebody once had a fence through there. It didn't seem to bother the sickle bar much, but I bet I'm in for sharpening sooner than I expected...

looks and sound familiar. I did the same, found barbed wire, after I was done.

Looks good!
At least you didn't have to unwrap it from a 30" rotary! :bonk:

Yikes! That's a scary thought!

thats why I always clear a new area 1st with the sickle bar, THEN go in with the rotary. My land was a farm from the mid 1800's until the 1960's. Lots of barbed wire
That makes sense.

This area was apple orchard for a long time, then disused. I think for a while somebody kept some kind of critters back there, which likely accounts for the fence. Now it's brush and weeds and assorted small to medium trees. Not really plausible to go in most of it with the rotary, too many big rocks and tree stumps. But the sickle bar works well, as long as you don't try to go too fast.
