Mitsubishi Diesel Engine Block Heater

11490 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Nouveau Redneck
I recently purchased an '09 TYM 293 HST tractor. It has a Mitsubishi S3L2 3 cylinder diesel engine. I'd like to install an engine block heater on it. Anyone here had experience doing a simular install. Any advice on finding a source for the heater ? I'm looking for an on-line source.

I don't know of any specific ones, might try TYM, other options are universal ones you can buy at auto parts stores where you match them up to the size "freeze" plugs in the block. The other option is a magnetic one that you stick on the oil pan or side of the block, seems alot of people on here have gone that route.

I don't have one as mine is kept inside and it usually doesn't get that cold around here( and it still starts fine when it does).

you could also get a inline one that you would put in your bottom radiator hose they are available at tsc and auto part stores simply drain the coolant cut the hose instal the heater and tighten the hose clamps replace the coolant and your good to go

I did an on-line search and found that 1 1/2" lower radiator hose inline heater at TSC. A 600 watt heater for $24.95 looks like the way to go. I'll have to take a look at the tractor and see how much work it will be or if it will even fit. Thanks for the reply.
I also read some reviews on magnetic heaters and a lot of people are unhappy with the heat transfer efficiency.

If you have an unheated barn or shed to store it in, you can throw a tarp over it and put a 100 watt light bulb under the oil pan for an hour or two before you go to start it. You'd be amazed at how much heat a light bulb can put out. There's so much energy wasted as heat with a conventional incandescent bulb that the government is outlawing them in favor of compact fluorescent and LED bulbs.
