OK so I'm about ready to take the plunge and make the big purchase. Wondering what if any experience you all have with any of the title welders.

Millermatic 211: is a stand alone Mig Welder.

ESAB Rebel: Is a multi function machine that does mig, stick and tig welding.

Lincoln 210 MP: Is a multi function machine that does mig, stick and tig welding.

They all seem like very capable machines. My primary goal when doing my research was to get the best Mig welder I could for the type of welding I plan on doing. While finalizing my decision I was introduced to ESAB Rebel. That took me back to square one. Now I don't know if I want a single unit that does all 3 Mig Stick and Tig or do I want to keep my processes separate so if one machine becomes dysfunctional for what ever reason I still have others to fall back on?

After looking at some of the ESAB Rebel videos I have to say I like what I see.

I have a 211 and really like it. The Esab looks like nice machine. I would like the tig but probably never use the stick.
Haven't faced anything that I can't do with the MIG. As you said and I never looked at it like that but if it were to break all is down, but I would say the chances of that are slim.

I can't comment on those particular models, but I'd lean towards an all in one vs separate machines. As mentioned, the odds of a breakdown are very slim.

Really have to ask yourself, how much of each process will you do.
I use MIG more than I would stick, how much would I use tig? Don't know. But that's me.
I think I would want a separate tig machine, I don't know for sure but I'm sure there would be some change over for each process. If I'm doing a job that would require both , I would not want to stop to change over. I may be wrong .

The mentioned multi process machines don't do tig AC which means no aluminum tig welding. With the purchase of an additional spool gun they can weld Aluminum by a mig/spool gun.

I have never used a Mig or Tig. I have only done Oxy and Arc welding.

In anticipation I got my self a better face shield / eye protection :)

Doesn't hurt to be ready, that helmet should do you well. I haven't bought a spool gun for mine yet, one day.
Will involve another shield gas. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
I have a Jackson Baldor auto darkening helmet, actually helped me weld better, I can see what I'm doing, over the fixed shade helmet I used to use.
What ever you end up with you'll be happy.

Yes being able to see what you are doing especially during arc start up is a big thing. I used the fixed el'cheapo welding helmet that came with my Lincoln AC 250 Buzz Box and found it very difficult to near impossible see where I was starting.

There are several things I want to get that I feel will make my welding abilities considerably better. Like a welding table for one. :)

I bought a Miller fold up table. 30 FX Arc station. I didn't want a large table that took up a lot of room. These are 30" square, 3/8" thick top and cut to use the Miller clamps. Will hold 500#. Folds up and has wheels to move around. Tuck it out of the way. I will say Miller accessories ain't cheap, but it is good stuff.
I had a neighbors 60" mower deck on it, no problem. 300-400# used the fel to get it up and down. I have another neighbor that circle races and always bringing suspension parts for repair says I can weld better than he can. LOL
Strong Hands makes some nice tables also but not as robust.
Then you can always build one, if I had a bit more room I would have done that. Unless you have a source of inexpensive steel this be the most expensive way to go. I did a lot figuring before I bought one.
I like my portable, already had to take to my brothers place and do some repairs.
Harbor Freight has one similar to the Strong Hands but is light duty at best, not real stable.
It's all what you want to spend.

I looked into building my own. Local Scrap yard needs .50¢ a pound for rust scrap. Just the other day I was in there and they had a brand new 3/4" thick plate of 7'x4' would make a nice table top. It still had the tag or label on it from when it was sold or cut. I could not believe it was in the scrap pile but some one must have goofed up LOL. At .50¢ a pound I don't think I like the price of making my own table.

I was looking into building my own 1/2" plate table. Cost is my primary concern :(

Edit: I read that 1/2" plate is best for a table when pounding on projects is to be expected. :dunno: It's suppose to hold up better with out marring as much.

I'd plan on tacking some of the projects on the table as well to keep them from moving out of position so I could get some good welds on the projects.

So I could go anywhere with it, and I'm not limited to just 220. I'm not sure if the rebel has that though. When I get some cash saved up I'll be getting the 210MP.

The Miller is the same. Very handy to have that capability. I had to help my brother out and he only had 110. Works out well. I went with the Miller for the drive system. But both are very equal machines.

Rebel has 110/220v as well... It has a mode called SMIG aka smart mig. It allows you to keep the gun at the same distance from the weld at each start. It keeps the stick out the same from start to stop. In doing so the next restart requires no line trimming or what ever one would say to trim the wire. I think that's one feature that makes it nice among it's other features.

Well i think it would come down to price then. They all seem to be very similar, although the Miller does only MIG. After looking at some prices, the Miller and Lincoln are roughly the same at around $1200, and the Rebel is up around $1400.

I just pulled the trigger today on the ESAB Rebel EMP 215ic , 80 cu.ft. argon/co2, 10# hobart ER70S-6 wire, Channel lock mig pliers and the Lincoln Viking 3350 4C welding hood. Hope I'm happy with it all. All together I'm looking at a few dollars under 2k :banghead3

I can guarantee you will be happy with the 3350 helmet. Best helmet for that price in my opinion.

I think it's a 75/25 mix

I cancelled my original helmet order and place an order elsewhere when I learned what the last number in the part number code means. I originally ordered the Kxxxx-1 and changed it out for the 4C lense helmet Kxxxx-3 ;)
