Mighty Mac chipper shredder

Just wanted to review the MacKissic TPH122 chipper shredder which I recently purchased for my MF 2410. Basically I wanted an affordable chipper that didn't weigh 500 lbs+ to deal with the large amount of white pine debris that I have on the wooded part of my property and whatever may come down throughout the year. The chipper also had to be small enough to run on 16.5 PTO HP. I could have gone for the bigger TPH184, but at twice the price for only 1 inch more diameter capacity, I couldn't justify it.

I have spent about 12 hours chipping so far with this unit and it has lived up to all my expectations. Assembly took about 1.5 hrs, most of the time was spent getting the driveshaft cut to the proper size. Detailed directions and a length calculation worksheet made the job easy with the only a tape measure and a hacksaw.

Chipping dead pine and other wood is a breeze and the unit makes quick work of a mess of debris. Even the large pile of dead grape vines went through the chipper well. Chips come out the left side and tend to accumulate quickly to the point that chips get under the unit high enough to hit the spinning drive pulley. So you either have to move or push the chips out of the way. I now have at least 3 cu yds of fresh pine mulch which I will mix with dirt for fill and flower beds.

I keep a bow saw and loppers nearby to trim some branches to fit in the 3.5 inch chipper. The actual size of the opening at the knife is slightly larger and square, which makes getting not-so-straight branches to chip much easier than if it was a just a round hole. The shredder hopper makes quick work of debris smaller than 1 inch. The hopper also has a flip open 1/2 lid with an attached plastic chip guard which, when closed, keeps chips from flying out when you are using the main chipper part.

Overall, I recommend this chipper to anyone who want to keep their property clean and reduce the amount of debris from fall cleanups. Good work MacKissic!

As an owner of a MF GC2410 I would also like pictures and if you are up to it a video clip or two.

I have been collecting a file of info on chippers for my tractor for future purchase and this model is in the running with a few others.

I look forward to the eye candy!

Oh, and dirty tractors and equipment just confirms they are not barn babes and they work for a living.:fing32:

hi i just got through this link :)

i read the statement and also had a look at pics. thanks

i am trying to build myself a chipper shredder with hammer mill similar to this :)

will refer to your pics as well. especially in hammer mill area.
well if you could help.

i got some diagrams in which the hammer mill shafts rest on three rotors/discs like this > ( |=|=| )

i was going to make the hammers slide on 20mm thick steel rod (4 rods with 8 blades on for a total of 32 blades.). i was going to rest the blades on two rotors/discs. for a total length of 10 inches.
like this > (|==|)

how long is your rotor area?
how thick are the rotors/plates/discs of the hammer mill?

thanks

if i lived in US i would prolly buy a new one.. but i am not.. transport costs are undescribable. :(

Thanks much for the review. We're considering options for a chipper/shredder, and this was helpful. :thanku:

Joseph... did you ever build your chipper shredder hammer mill?

How did it work out?

I'm thinking of modifying mine, adding more swinging flail hammers to one unit that has only 12 flails.

I'm also thinking of adding a flywheel with chipper blades to another unit that has fixed hammers, or, converting the fixed hammers into swinging flails.

Since keeping the rotating assembly balanced is critical, I'm curious how you had your rotor and mill balanced after (or if) you completed your build.

...just fyi, this is a 9 year old thread, and maltesefarmer hasn't logged into the site since 2014, you are unlikely to get a response...
I was aware it is an old thread, but I've been on forums for 25 years, and sometimes, I'll get an email notification from a forum I haven't visited in 10 years, and I'll oblige the inquiry.
Sure, it happens sometimes, which is why I use "unlikely" instead of "won't". Most relatively new users don't look to see how old the thread is or when the user logged in, when they find threads via searching or from the recommended reading section, and I reply to them just to give them a heads up about that.
