I've rewired my 1973 MF85, but I want to replace the circuit breaker and the starter solenoid.

This is an 8hp Briggs with the dual circuit alternator.

Would anyone happen to know what amperage the circuit breaker should be?

I've looked a few starter solenoids, on ebay, and there seems to be quite a variety of models, but I have no idea what the difference is from one to the other.

The solenoid on the tractor (original?) is a four-pole.

Any ideas on which would be the appropriate solenoid for this tractor?

Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thank you, optimistically, in advance

Thank you very much for your response.

So, any 3-pole solenoid will do and a 10 amp
circuit breaker from Bussman.

Thank you, again. It's much appreciated.

What symptoms is the solenoid exhibiting?
Thank you for your response.

Well, when I turn the key...nothing happens.
I tested the cable from the battery + to solenoid
and I get 12 volts.

I tested the other terminal to starter with key ON
and I get no voltage.

I by-passed the trans. and mower safety switches
and took the YELLOW wire from the ign. switch
directly to the solenoid. It's energised, with key ON, but still nothing.

All the wiring is new (correct colours) and slightly up-graded
from 18g to 2mm which is about 14g or so.

So, I figured it had to be a bad solenoid (it looks original).

My problem was that there seems to be a plethora of solenoids, for vaious applications, for as little as $8 to about $30 and I don't know what the difference is or which is appropriate for my 8hp Briggs :dunno:
