I have not had any luck finding an air filter (Mac 221233) for the Mac-power 2300 generator (produced 84-86) online anywhere.

I have seen blocks of filter foam for sale but there seems to be a lot of different densities and grades. It looks like i need a 4 1/4 circle by 1 to 1 1/4 thick. any help on where and what to get to make this out of?

I couldn't offer an idea for a paper corrugated type in a round format, but you should be able to get a piece of foam with a pre-filter that is fine foam like many Briggs had. Sourcing it could also be, maybe converting a automotive Fram filter to fit, perhaps. Just a thought....

The filtration done by foam is a combination of labyrinth and oil, not so much the diameter of the holes in the filter media.{well, beyond the catching sticks, stones and clippings...}
As long as you get foam that will pass the air, and will stay clean on the carburetor side, you should be doing ok. If it is getting dark on the carb side, it is passing dirt. If it doesn't pass air, you'll get black smoke and poor economy along with fouled spark plugs and lack of power. If you go too small on the holes, it won't pass much air. You could test dry media by trying to blow or suck through it. I think 'closed cell' is not the media you want. But these are just my opinions.

you could use ladies panty hose. I would do two or three layers of the stuff. secure it with rubber bands.

I am not sure of the diameter but you could ask down in the Walkbehind section about the old Lawnboy circular filters. I'd say they are pretty close to that size.

Monday I received the bulk filter material I ordered from Amazon for $12. It is 12x16x5/8 so 2 layers made it about flush with the outside of the filter housing. I used 10w-30 on it. I have enough extra to made more filters.
