Please excuse my ignorance on John Deere products.Yesterday I found a used J.D.LX176 for sale. When I raised the hood, the engine was a "K Series" 14 H.P..Is this a Kohler engine? And any ideas how old the mower is? Thank you for any replies.

Kawasaki engine; probably FC420V. Not sure on the age; middle nineties maybe?
The John Deere Website lists this information on the LX176:

14-horsepower John Deere "K" Series engine
Hydrostatic transmission
Seat springs suspension is adjustable for the weight of the operator
Sun umbrella is available option
38-inch, 44-inch, and 48-inch mower deck cutting widths

And also:

Engine
Manufacturer : John Deere "K" Series
Horsepower : 14
Cylinders : One
Cooling Type : Air
Transmission : Hydrostatic
Turning Radius : 20 inches
Tilt Steering : No
PTO : Electric

It is still listed in their parts section with diagrams and parts list.
