Okay, I have seen post about tranny upgrades for the L120 series mowers. Anyone every tried to upgrade/replace a hydrostatic unit for a LT166? I'm sure it's the problem on my 10 year old model. Steep hills in the back yard. Probably more than the tractor can handle, but I'd like to keep the 166 running until I can save enough for a new x520.

If you've done the task, please share whatever tips, cautions or headaches you found.

Thanks

Is it just slowing down going up the hill? With the blades engaged or not?
Any service ever done to the tranny? More info please...

Not just up hills, but that's where it starts to lag. Does it with mower engaged or not. Dealer serviced it earlier in the spring, tightened drive belt, suggested the transmission was the reason I was not getting power up the hill. May try to change the oil first, but probably need to change the hydro unit out to have a complete fix.
