88/89 285
vs
GT275 (not sure of year)

I was checking that PDF out and from my understanding the snowblower on a 275 will fit a 285 but only if it had the model #BM18789?

I'm also curious if the 48" deck on that 275 will fit a 285. The PDF seems to imply it won't. Yet I've looked at pictures and the setup looks identical.

The way I read it is that BM18789 will fit, but you also need BM16733 Front Implement Lift Kit, BM19216 Attaching Parts and 1-M137636 Bracket, 2-
03M7190 Bolts, 2-19M7866 Bolts and 6-24M7053 Washers. Also the 42 thrower model must be 3252M with a serial # higher than 200,000. Mowers don't look like they are compatible per the charts.

Nope, mower decks not compatible but snowthrower will work.

BTW, I had a 285 for about 17 yrs. Liked it a lot but my current 345 has it beat for comfort.

Thanks for the info fellas. :thThumbsU

Dave that 345 does look nice... I did however completely dismantle every nut and bolt on the 285 so I plan to get at least a few seasons out of it before I think about upgrading :fing32:

It seems as though my serial number is outside all the listed serial numbers for the 285 attachments.

For some reason the numbers are listed in reverse as you can see in the picture? None of them go up to 495,280 which is what my serial number appears to be.

Am I just over looking something here? :dunno:

I see that. It would not surprise me if JD had it screwed up. I've seen it on their parts breakdown in their drawings.

I've heard rumors that a 38" blower will fit on a 285. I'm curious if this one will fit and if so would it be better or worse then a 42" for doing a steep paved driveway that has a relatively good size flat area at the top?

This picture attached is the one I'm looking at if anyone has compatibility knowledge.

Below is a link to the tag on my 285...

Grab it, it will work! No idea if it will be better or worse.

Only problem with it is you might be driving over some new snow not blown because the width of the tractor is more then the 38" width of the blower.

Thanks for the info fellas. I decided to hold out a little longer and see if a good deal on a 42 pops up.

While I'm here....I remember reading awhile back while I was researching compatibility stuff that a member here had a used front lift assist spring for sale.

I can't find the post again for the life of me to see how long ago it was and if he still had it.

Just in the off chance that member happens to be reading this...

Jimbo I see that 265 sold? Congrats. If I remember right you were sitting on it a little while.

Sternzy,

It might have been me, if you mean the lift assist kit needed on 240-285's. Had it on my 285 for years when using the 42 thrower. Then got my 345 and have no need for it anymore. I think you will be glad to hold out for a 42. As Jimbo said, a 38 is really not wide enough for your tractor.

Make an offer, I haven't got a clue what its worth but I'm not greedy. :dunno:
Dave

BTW, I'll be offline most the weekend so if I don't get right back to you, I will eventually.

The PO of my 42" blower had made some interesting 'wings' for the sides to give it an extra 2" of clearing width. Im sure something could be made for the 38" blower, it just wouldnt scrape the snow past the edges but would funnel it in to the auger.

OT: Did you ever get a viable power steering option figured out for the 285?

Hey, sorry KhellendrosXS I didn't see your question there the first time around.

I am absolutely convinced power steering is pretty much a bolt on setup from the 320. It's literally the same exact tractor with the same engine and same transaxle.

The catch is that it must require some minor work on the tranaxle. Someone with a little more knowledge then me agreed that it is most likely the case. Still though, I think it is quite possible the transaxle work is more or less bolt on modifications from the 320.

I would love to have a look at the 320 in person. Maybe after I get this blower all sorted out I'll try contacting Deere to get to the bottom of the power steering thing.

I did pick up a 3252 42" blower with chains(which are to small), two weights, and attaching parts for an lx255.

I won't be needing the 255 attaching parts so if anyone is interested in that stuff or the chains let me know. Random, but I also have the tiller lift arm for a GT275 available.

Now for the fun part. To try and figure out what exactly I need to attach it, and how to attach it :praying:

Dave, I got the part in the mail today. Thank you for sending it over so fast!

Now, I do feel kind of silly here. Because I can't for the life of me figure out what part this is. I'm trying to match it up to something in the deere parts catalog and I can't find anything that looks like it.

So I've got to ask, where does this thing go :ROF

OK, IIRC, the end with the short cap on it goes on the end of the front lift kit bar that sticks through the tractor frame on the right. Then, the rest of it goes rearward and attaches back there with a pin on the frame of the thrower. Then you close it to create the lift assist. That's about all I remember, been a long time ago now. I don't think I had to drill anything, it fit right up when I had my thrower on the 285. Had my 345 for too long now.

We can chat on the phone if you like. PM your #, I'll call you one eve.

My 42 book says ….. on GT245 GT262 GT 275 remove spring locking pin and C shaped latch from right side to allow easy installation, use extra washers if it doesn't pivot freely.
Don't know if it applies to you but for what its worth….:dunno:

Thanks for the info KATT, I'll keep that in mind when I got to install. I've ordered what I believe is everything I need so it shouldn't be long now.
