Hi All,

I also posted this over in the simplicity forums and hope to get a few opinions. I Just joined the forums yesterday to hopefully get some good advice. I purchased my first house 2 weeks ago, and now I need a tractor. The lot is 1 acre of a slightly rolling hill. Since, I just bought the house I have a budget that I would like to stay within, around $2500. The local simplicity dealer has a used (wasn't sure of the year, thought late 90's) Simplicity Landlord, DLX, 23hp, with 427 hours, tire chains and a snowblower for $1900. The blower probably would get used, but I could live without it. We get a fair amount of snow here in Northern PA so I have a 60" blade for my ATV which would get the most use for snow removal. The tractor and blower are in fair to good condition, probably more on the fair side. I took it for a "test mow" yesterday. It fired right up, no smoke and idled good and mowed and ran fine. I was also looking at a new toro GT 2100 which I can get for a few hundred more. I guess after all this rambling, is the used simplicity a better bargain than the new toro?

Thanks for any help!

1900 seems like a lot if your just mowing your lawn, and you have an atv to plow with anyways. I would suggest checking craigslist, you can find great mowers for a lot cheaper than dealer prices.

But if i were to choose, i would most likely go with the toro, just because i have some experience with them, and know they have GREAT customer service.

That being said, i would never spend more than 500 on a riding mower unless it was a small farm tractor which i could till with and whatnot. You can easily find a very nice mower for under 500 too, We got our JD 310 for $500, it came with a good mower deck, and tiller.

Have you looked at Craigslist?
I picked up my 93 314-8 Wheelhorse with a dozer blade, snowblower, chains and weights for $550.
The deals are out there, just look around.

If you are looking for a "size" of wheel horse that would best
suit your lawn size. I can recomend most any of the C series
wheel horses from the mid-70's. They are reasonably priced.
And you have the greatest chance of finding more of a variety
of attachments for the tractor.

Good luck.
