I have one of the Hitchin' Post devices laying in the corner of my garage. Had it on the GT235 for a while, but it just can't handle much weight on the ball mount or the cart attachment area before the steel mounting of the tractor starts to bend downward. I took it off a long time ago and haven't looked back.

I did this on my JD, put a ball in the forward hitch plate hole, and preserved the rearward hole for draw pin hitches. The tractor often is pulling my Trac-Vac where a nice hefty B&S Intek sits on the tongue and adds plenty of ground hugging weight to the rear tires:

But, my ATV had only one legitimate hole in the hitch, so I added the Hitch N Post:

Where I've abused it pretty heavily by hauling half cord trailer loads out of the woods on the ball:

And regularly pull 18' logs with my log arch where I am in the pin hole:

To last winter when I built a sledge to pull rounds in the snow that I couldn't begin to lift by looping a strap on the hooks:

I have retightened the bolt about once per year. Otherwise, it has been very handy.

Did you have to drill holes in the back of your tractor, or did these holes align with existing holes? Do you have any pictures of this installed on your tractor?

I had to center it and drill holes myself. Automotive tire Motor vehicle Tire Vehicle Auto part

Like several others have chimed in, I tried one of these hitches (I wanted to attach chains) and the Deere mounting plate got bent-up a bit.

I next found a heavy L shaped metal mounting bracket at Harbor Freight. My welder mated the two together and it now works fine for my usage.

I believe that I posted about this (maybe even posted pics?) on my long-winded story about purchasing/ repairing another x540. That story dates back to about Sep 2014?

top trailer, other is for a lawn sweeper or whatever. WH is sort of a sleeve hitch, so I can pull a pin and remove the entire thing for a different hitch. You can also run a cable to it turning the hitch into hydraulic lift.

It's worked out good for me. Hook up a landscape trailer to park. Or I have a garden tractor wagon that I can fill with 2,000 pounds of rock and move around. Made it out of 3/8 scrap I had laying around.

Hi Wrascal, I found the thread you referred to and this was the only picture I could find of the hitch. I would like to try this so maybe if you get time you could post some more up close pictures.

I'm still looking for ideas so keep em coming.

Thanks to everybody that took time to reply.

If you don't have too much load or hills to go up, you might try to use a front hitch. My X520 had the front mounting frame with a receiver in it. You use a 1" receiver w/ball. When I bought the X540, I had the dealer transfer that frame to the new tractor. It is listed in parts. I know it will fit as it is on my tractor (2013 model). I usually push my trailer around with it. Works as well or better than pulling the trailer.

I had a hitching post, but as others have said, it will bend the mounting plate.

Superhawk has the best idea, which I plan to do when I get around to it.

I've got a 4x4 that I now use for my heavy hauling so the Deere probably wont get much towing time anymore.

Hey bmurph, I went to a small welding shop close to me and got a hitch/weight bracket made up for the back of my x530. Bolts right on using existing holes because I made a cardboard template to give to the guy. I like it so far and less chance of pull behind implements hitting my back tires on real sharp turns.

I'd be interested in ideas on this too.
I don't intend on towing anything too heavy, so the Hitchin' Post might hold up ok?
Lots of great ideas on here already!
I'm going to hold off for a while and see what other setups are being used.
Thanks for starting this thread Murph.

Great idea that I'd like to copy with one change. I'd like to fabricate one that is compatible with the 14 bushel bagger.
