Hey all I ust got a new tractor. It is a 1998 John Deere not sure what size. Small farm tractor though. It has a backhoe and box scraper with it. My wife got it for me since I got her a 2000 Ford Super duty.

It's either a 990 or 4005 ... the previous ... the 990.

I got one too (a wife that is) and if I know wives, somethin' tells me you might have come out cheaper buying it yourself. Them "Honeydews" can cost a lot. BEWARE of the wife bearing gifts LOL. Nice machine. :fing32:
Heck, I didn't even get a kiss for Christmas :crybaby: Now that I think about it, I don't think there is a man who knows his wife. They like to play those mind games with us.:bellyemot

Based on the model # on the loader and the rear wheels its a 970. It was built from 1989-1998. The serial # is below the PTO on these tractors.
1989 serial # 1001
1990 serial # 1338
1990 serial # 2242 (power steer)
1991 serial # 100001
1992 serial # 110001
1993 serial # 120001
1994 serial # 130001
1995 serial # 140001
1996 serial # 150001
1997 serial # 160001
1998 serial # 170001

I hope this helps.

Have you checked the plates on the engine block or frame for an ID? Congrat's.

Ronnie
Sorry for not being on for a while working on a big horse and cattle move coming up next week. The deere doesn't have any plates or frame ID's they are all off of the tractor. Thanks I will keep reasearching on this and keep you posted.
She's a keeper! The wife too.
We have been married for 12 years now and I love her dearly I am defeniatly going to have her be my wife till the day we go down and maybe longer:thThumbsU
Wow how good were you? Super good for santa to get you that!! ***, if it wasn't for the dog going 1&2 in the house I think, I could have been that good
I gave her a truck a 2000 Ford F250 4x4 super cab because her other one was on its last leg. I guess that means I was super good:fing32:

I believe by looking at it it is a 970 too. My neighbor has the same exact tractor other than a 1994. It helps alot to find out what model as the tractor will need parts sooner or later (hopefully later I am kinda broke with this recent snow storms)

I think the truck saved me on this part. I got her a new to us truck and she's loving it other than we need new tires on it she got it stuck going to work last Friday.
