From the land of 1000 unfinished projects I think we can scratch one off the list. We got the Z finished up yesterday evening and took it to the Cecil County Fair tractor pull today. Little Slim did real well, pulled it in the 3500 lb class slow, 3.5 mph and the fast 5mph. He almost went out of bounds in the slow class, was nervous and got on the wrong break. Pulled real good as the slow tractor in the fast class and ended up in 3 rd place.

I think the tractor turned out real well. I would like to thank my I.T. perfesional Steve (AKA Funky Ford) for all his help on this project :thanku: . Its nice to have good friends.

With all that said here are the pics!!!

The before pic was I believe July 1 when we decided to skip Muddy Run, due to the fact we figured it would be just that. The decales were applied July 21. I'm sorry I missed that part. I got distracted some this past week. The pictures are from the 3 miles an hour run, which he did very well. What everyone else doesn't get to see was the way he road that wheelie down the track during his 5 mile an hour run. I was really proud of him. Also Big Slim's creative side with the design and fabrication of the alternator bracket and custom draw bar. This tractor had no generator or alternator 20 some days ago. We also sand blasted and painted front wheels and mounted tires on the 98, and Custom made 15" wheels, blasted and painted and mounted front tires for the 44-6 during this time. I'm just glad I got to play a part in this project.

What a great job on the Z. It looks newer than new!
It was mentioned that little Slim hit the wrong brake? Looks like it carried the front off the ground in the 3.5 pull too!

The first pull pic is when little Slim was just shoving in the hand clutch? If I am right the MM had both a hand and foot clutch?

Carl,
I'm not sure that MM ever made a Z with a foot clutch. If they did It would have had a B in its model #, (ie. ZBU) which would have been a model Z tractor with a foot clutch and a narrow front end. I know that they made their U's both ways. Little Slims tractor is a ZAU. I think that the A designates it as a hand clutch. In the above picture CJ's hand is on the throttle. You can see the clutch handle, it is the larger handle that is sticking up. He was gettin her wound up a little  !! Hopefully Bear will let us know if I'm correct about the clutch question.

The tractor looks wondeful, but the picture of your son is worth a million bucks! Thanks for sharing the pics and telling us about this project.

BigSlim, funkyford, and crew...

You guys did an awesome job on the Z. I wish I would have had a project like that when I was your son(s) age! They are memories they will treasure always!

Congratulations!

tractor turned out great give youselves a pat on the back
the zt series beginning 1936 used the new mm engine on the old twin city j rear end with hand clutch
the za series beginning 1949 had mm designed back end still with hand clutch
the zb series beginning 1953 used the foot clutch finished up by 1955
the third letter gives the front wheel style s- standard, e- wide adjustable, n- single front wheel, u- two wheeled narrow front, i- industrial
this applys to the z, u and g (only available as a standard) the r remained an rt right through the production of them
