Hey guys. I'm hoping I've found a good 210 to pick up. Looks to be in very good shape, the owner has had it for 10+ years and he's an older gentleman who also has a 212 and a 318, sounds like he's done all the regular maintenance, it has new tires, new belts, a blade, wheel chains, and wheel weights (I believe the cast iron type). Only issue is that he says the deck is so bad that it's not usable, so he's been using this 210 to clear snow and mows with his 318.

I'm going to see it tomorrow, and I think it's fairly priced at $450, considering the condition and all the accessories. Perhaps a bit high, but if everything is in as good of shape as it appears, it's a price I'm willing to pay. I'm still going to go through it thoroughly, compression test and all that, but so long as everything is as appears/stated, I intend to bring it home.

My question is: what are my options for replacing the deck? I'd want the 38" side discharge deck, but I've done some quick searching on CL & some forums and haven't seen anything that is 210 specific. I'm sure a 210 can use decks from a number of other tractors, but a few searches haven't produced any lists of compatibility.

Can anyone provide this type of list? I've heard that prices on decent decks can be kind of outrageous, so I guess I'll also keep an eye out for a broken down 210-214 w/ a 38" deck, maybe pick-up the whole package for a good price and part-out the broken down tractor.

Anyway, any info is very much appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks guys, great info/links! I may have already found a solution: came across a craigslist ad for a whole slew of JD attachments & parts, called the guy up, he says he has several 39" decks (in good, complete, usable condition) for $150, another $35 if I need the mounting hardware (unsure, won't know until I check out the 210). Sounds like a good option, I'll definitely be talking to him further if I bring this 210 home.

I forgot to state that the blade is the 42" blade, all mounting included, but I don't believe it has the remote angling kit. Oh well, maybe I'll find one if I decide I need it.

Blade - $100-200 depending on condition (angle kit would add another $50-100)
Cast iron Wheel weights - $150
Chains $50

That puts the price for the tractor w/new belts and tires at $150-250

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Steve, that was my exact logic also! Glad to know someone else agrees with it, hahaha :fing32:

If you get the 210.. make sure you haul the deck home with you.. regardless of the condition.

Then.. if it's truly bad.. haul it to the craigslist guy, then you can compare.

I know where there is a remote angle kit for sale. I've never stopped and asked the price and it's been there for over a year so I'm betting it isn't cheap. Let me know if you're interested and I'll stop and see what the price is.

yeah, deffinitely worth it. However, just so you know now and dont get scared when the results are weird, a compression test doesnt work to well on these old kohlers thanks to the compression release. If it runs good and doesnt knock or smoke, your probably fine. Just do the usual service and maybe check the point gap and adjust the valves
