Lifting the bushes

897 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  marcusmerritt
Ford 2000; 3 cyl gas; 4/1 trans....I have some mature holly bushes and some privet hedge that I would like to pull up roots and all. Is it feasible to use my lift to pull these out of the ground? Trunks on the holly are 3"-5" diameter, smaller on the privet. If feasible, should I use a strap or chain? Anyone done this successfully? Any particular method of wrapping strap or chain? Thanks.

I use a chain wrapped around the base of the bush and connected to the draw bar, and then just drive forward and it rips right out of the ground. On stubborn ones it may take a few rolling jerks to get it started.

Trying to pull them by driving with the chain connected to the 3 point could potentially lift the front wheels off the ground and could cause a rollover. Lifting with the 3 point without driving forward is safer but could still lift the front wheels off the ground.
