Button on top of the lift lever is broken. I can push the lever forward and it moves the mower deck but the lever won't lock into place and stay forward. I hope to get to working on it in the next few days so I haven't taken anything apart yet.

This is my first tractor I've ever owned and only had it a few months so I am extremely new to working on this type of equipment. Was hoping for a little advice before I start taking things apart with what the issue might be or possibly what I need to look for.

Just to clarify, did it use to work OK for you?

Normally, even if the handle does not latch forward, it will stay forward just from the weight of the mower deck.

Are you saying when you release the handle, that the handle comes back to you and the deck goes up? It should not unless the deck is off.

Normally it will lock if you push it all the way forward (keep moving it forward even after the deck is down), but I had one once that did not get far enough forward to catch in the notch.

Also, there is a button in the front of the handle that you can press in while holding the top button down, and that will keep the top button down (in the float position.) But if you press the top button again, that button in the front should release and the top button should come all the way back up.

Thank you PA318Guy! I will use that diagram to take it apart and find what is failing.

BigGoodJohn, I bought it used and it was broke when I bought it. The handle stays towards me and the deck down. I can push it forward and the deck comes up but if I release the handle, the handle will come back towards me and the deck will go back down. Seems to be reversed of what you described.

I also don't see a second button in the front of the handle on my lever. I also don't see it on the diagram posted above from PA318Guy unless I am reading it incorrectly.
