well I got the old girl (1963 LI) out today to get ready for another busy season. Unfortunatly when I went to start it the tractor lurched forward and no matter how I adjust the forward/reverse handle it still grabs when I hit the starter (it has electric start). Any idea how to get it to release without needing to split the tractor?

Tap on the actuating shaft (one the forward/reverse actuating lever is attached to) It should move when the F/R lever is moved.
The clutch band may be seized to the planetary drive ring gear. Tapping on the actuating shaft may break it loose.

I had a similar problem with my '54L this spring. A 4 mile ride from the barn to my house bouncing on a utility trailer with several starts and stops loosened the stuck clutch. 🙂
